There are many ways to personalize your showerhead, but these showerheads can be divided into four categories.
Basic Showerhead
The basic showerhead is the first choice. It can be either a single unit or multi-functional. This setup will allow you to use it as a handheld shower, or as a hand-shower. It can also be mounted on a slide bar to move up or down. This option was previously a problem due to its size and angle.
You have the basic showerhead, which can be either a regular or multi-function. This is really just one unit. There are two options for your showerhead: a handheld or hand-held model. This showerhead can also be mounted on a slide bar to allow you to move up or down. The way brackets were used in the past has made it difficult to determine the size and angle of these. They were often small and did not angle correctly, but Moen, Delta, and others have come up with larger heads that are properly angled.
Another option is to place it on a slide bar. This is great if there are people who use the shower at different heights. You can also move it up and down.
Separate Diverter/Separate Showerhead:
A separate diverter and separate shower head function is the second function. You now have a diverter valve that flips between a fixed or handheld showerhead. It can also be multi-functional. It doesn't make sense to have the two together, especially in a small shower. Many people prefer having the handheld near them while they are sitting down on a bench. They can have one while standing and the other when they are seated on the bench. If you plan to spread them out, it is a good idea to have a separate diverter valve. It does require additional plumbing and hardware.
A hydro trail is the third method. A hydro trail is a surface-mounted rail that can be equipped with a rain head and then an attached handheld. Hydrorails don't need additional valves. This can often be retrofitted to an existing shower, as it connects directly between the existing valve and the showerhead. You can also have a rain head or regular showerhead with a hydro trail system. This allows you to use a handheld function and doesn't require any additional plumbing, hardware, and valves. They look great.
These are your options for how to use multiple showerheads in a bathroom. You also have the option of a rain-head coming from above. You know that most people only have two options, but there are three. It's important that your diverter valve can be used to move between three options. The maximum you can use is an overhead rain head, standard showerhead and handheld. California law only allows you to use one water source for each unit. You could have different shower valves and each one could be running on a different valve in the past. Unfortunately, you can only have one source of water with today's water requirements. Although you can combine them, the water volume will be very low, so it's best to run them individually and then use them for different functions. These are just a few examples of multi-function showerheads that can be used to achieve different results.
